Galvumet (Generic)
Generic drugs, marketed without brand names, contain the exact same active ingredients used in their brand-name counterparts, but cost significantly less. The drugs are required to meet US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards for safety, purity and effectiveness.
Galvumet
Galvumet is a combination medication that has two active ingredients, vildagliptin (50 milligrams) and metformin (1000 milligrams), in equal amounts. In patients whose diabetes is not adequately controlled on metformin hydrochloride alone or who are already treated with the combination of vildagliptin and metformin hydrochloride, as separate tablets, this pharmaceutical is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycaemic control. This is done in patients whose diabetes is not adequately controlled on metformin hydrochloride alone. It is not recommended to begin treatment with this predetermined dosage combination. In individuals whose diabetes is not sufficiently managed by metformin and a sulfonylurea, the use of Galvumet in conjunction with a sulfonylurea (also known as triple combination therapy) is often prescribed as an additional treatment in addition to diet and exercise. Galvumet is also administered as an add-on to insulin as an adjuvant to diet and exercise to enhance glycaemic control in individuals where a stable dosage of insulin and metformin alone do not offer appropriate glycaemic control. This is the case in situations when patients with type 2 diabetes.

Generic Galvumet
What exactly is this item?
Galvumet is a combination medication that has two active ingredients, vildagliptin (50 milligrams) and metformin (1000 milligrams), in equal amounts. Those who suffer from diabetes mellitus type 2 are the target audience for this product.
What conditions are treated with Generic Galvumet
It is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in persons who are already taking vildagliptin and metformin tablets individually, or whose diabetes cannot be controlled by metformin alone. Generic Galvumet can also be used in patients whose diabetes cannot be controlled by metformin alone.
Patients whose blood sugar levels are not effectively managed while taking simply metformin plus a sulfonylurea may benefit from taking generic Galvumet in combination with a sulfonylurea as an adjunctive treatment.
When a steady dosage of insulin plus metformin do not give appropriate control of the patient's blood sugar, a generic version of Galvumet is added to the patient's insulin regimen.
Together with a healthy diet and regular exercise, your physician has recommended that you take it.
Both vildagliptin, which is classified as a "islet enhancer," and metformin, which is classified as a "biguanide," are included in the generic version of Galvumet. These two components work together to treat type 2 diabetes.
Diabetes mellitus type 2 was once referred to as "non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus" (NIDDM) or "maturity onset diabetes." These terms no longer apply.
Diabetes type 2 can occur when the body is unable to create enough insulin or when the insulin that it does produce does not function as effectively as it could. It is also possible for it to develop if the body generates an excessive amount of glucagon.
Insulin is a hormone that has a role in reducing the amount of sugar that is present in the blood, particularly after a meal. Glucagon is yet another chemical that is responsible for stimulating the creation of sugar by the liver, which ultimately results in an increase in the level of sugar in the blood. The pancreas is responsible for the production of both of these chemicals.
The level of blood sugar can be better managed with the aid of generic Galvumet. Vildagliptin has the effect of stimulating the pancreas to create more insulin and less glucagon, which is the key to its efficacy. Moreover, it assists the body in making more effective use of the insulin that is produced by the pancreas (effect of metformin).
If the anti-diabetic medication(s) you are already taking are not sufficient to keep your blood sugar level under control, your doctor may prescribe Generic Galvumet either on its own or in conjunction with another anti-diabetic medication as a replacement for the anti-diabetic medication(s) you are already taking.
Throughout your treatment with generic Galvumet, it is essential for you to maintain the dietary and/or physical activity routines that have been prescribed to you by your doctor.
If you are unsure of why you have been given this medication, you should inquire about it with your primary care physician.
It's possible that your physician prescribed it for another purpose entirely.
The generic version of Galvumet is not intended to replace insulin. It is not employed in the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis or type 1 diabetes, which is characterized by an absence of insulin production by the body.
This medication may only be obtained through a prescription from a medical professional. There is no risk of addiction.
Because there is not enough information available, we cannot suggest the use of this medication in children less than 18 years old.
Before you start using Generic Galvumet, you need...
Sometimes you simply cannot afford to take it.
If you have an allergy to vildagliptin or metformin, which are the active components in this medication, or to any of the additional substances specified at the end of this leaflet, you should not use this medication.
any additional medications that are comparable (such as medicines of the same class or with a similar structure, if listed in the PI)
An allergic response can cause a variety of symptoms, including wheezing, trouble breathing, shortness of breath, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or other regions of the body, and rashes, itching, or hives on the skin.
If you have any of the following conditions, you should not use this medication:
difficulties with your kidneys for which your doctor has deemed it inappropriate for you to use Generic Galvumet; having previously used this medication, but having been instructed to cease doing so by your doctor due to complications with your liver;
experienced a heart attack recently or are suffering from heart failure
issues with circulation on a significant level, including shock and difficulty breathing
diabetes may lead to a number of dangerous consequences, including diabetic ketoacidosis (a condition in which a person with diabetes has fast weight loss, nausea, or vomiting), and diabetic coma.
Diabetes type 1, often known as juvenile diabetes, is a kind of diabetes in which the body does not create any insulin at all. The generic version of Galvumet is not intended to replace insulin.
ketoacidosis caused by diabetes is a condition that can occur in people with diabetes mellitus who have very little or no insulin. The generic version of Galvumet is not intended to replace insulin.
If you are planning to undergo an x-ray with contrast, you should not take this medication (a type of x-ray involving an injectable dye).
Because taking this medication might potentially impair the function of your kidneys, you will be required to refrain from doing so both during the surgery and for a few days thereafter.
Do not use this medication after the "best if used by" date that is marked on the package, or if the packaging is damaged in any way or shows symptoms of having been tampered with.
In that case, you should take it back to the pharmacy.
Before you begin to take it, make sure you...
Throw away any more metformin-containing medications that were given to you in the past by your doctor and that you may still have in your possession. Your doctor may have done so in the past.
Metformin is the active ingredient in generic Galvumet. It is possible to take an unsafely high dose of metformin if you are in possession of more than one medication that contains the substance (overdose). A condition known as lactic acidosis is a very significant adverse effect that can be brought on by inadvertently taking an excessive amount of metformin.
An accidental overdose of metformin poses a significant threat to one's health and safety.
If you are unclear whether or whether you have any additional medications that include metformin, you should see your doctor or pharmacist.
In Australia, metformin can be purchased under a wide variety of various brand names. Your physician or pharmacist should be able to provide you with information on the other medications that include metformin.
Inform your primary care physician if you have any known sensitivities to any medications, foods, colors, or preservatives.
Whenever you go to the doctor, they will want to know whether you have a history of allergic reactions.
Inform your physician if you are pregnant or if you plan to become pregnant in the near future.
Your healthcare provider will talk to you about the potential benefits and drawbacks of this option.
Inform your doctor if you are currently breastfeeding or if you intend to start breastfeeding in the near future.
It is not known if the active component of Generic Galvumet goes into breast milk or if it might have an effect on your child if you are breastfeeding.
Notify your primary care physician if any of the following health issues apply to you:
problems with your kidneys problems with your liver type 1 diabetes (formerly known as 'juvenile onset' or 'insulin-dependent' diabetes mellitus or 'IDDM'), a condition in which the body does not produce any insulin diabetic ketoacidosis, a condition in which chemicals called ketones build up in the body due to very low insulin levels problems with your eyes problems with your ears problems with your nose problems with your ears problems with your nose problems with your ears problems with your ears problems
Your physician will be able to provide you with guidance in this matter if you are unsure of whether any of the aforementioned conditions apply to you.
During the beginning of treatment and on a frequent basis while you are receiving treatment, your physician will test the function of your liver and kidneys, as well as your blood sugar level and urine sugar level on a regular basis.
The management of your diabetes is significantly impacted by a number of lifestyle factors, including alcohol use, food, physical activity, and overall health.
Using many additional medications
You should let your primary care physician or your pharmacist know if you are taking any additional medications, including any that you purchase over-the-counter from a pharmacy, grocery store, or health food store.
It is possible that you will need to adjust the dosages of your other medications or switch to a new medication entirely while you are on Generic Galvumet. Your primary care physician and your pharmacist have access to more information.
